What is the Suzuki
Method ?
Dr. Shinichi Suzuki began developing his system of music education
in Japan in the 1930's. With continually improving education available
for teachers and parents, thousands of families worldwide find
their children achieving musically high standards studying violin,
viola, cello, bass, guitar, harp, flute, piano or voice and enjoying
the process!
Dr.Suzuki believes that all children
are born with high potential and that their fate is in their parents'
hands. "Abilities develop only for the things which have been
experienced," he says, "I believe that in the field of education
we must not forget that ability does not grow where there is no
experience."
The idea that musical talent is an
inherited trait may have developed because many so-called prodigies
of the past grew up with intense exposure to music in families
with one or more performers. This 'second language' of music then
developed naturally at a very young age. All young children have
the natural ability to learn easily by imitation and repetition.
Given the proper training and environment,
every child can learn to play an instrument. Since each child
develops at his own rate, some will progress more quickly than
others, but each can learn to play well at his highest level of
accomplishment.
